Construction company fined £100k over Didsbury blast 04/12/12 PJ Livesey Group has been fined £100,000 following a major gas explosion that destroyed dozens of homes in south Manchester. The company was prosecuted by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) following the blast at its Didsbury Gate development on 8 December 2009. Lenders tell BTL landlords they must not take benefit tenants 04/12/12 Some private landlords with buy-to-let mortgages are being prevented by their lenders from letting to people on benefits. BM Solutions, the buy-to-let brand of state-backed Lloyds Banking Group, is one lender, and Accord, a Yorkshire Building Society brand, is another. Buy-to-let consultant David Lawrenson said he found it ‘incredible’. Lawrenson said: “It seems interesting that the Government, who have an interest in getting vulnerably housed people housed in the private rented sector, have not picked up on this issue before, especially as one lender is a part state-owned bank. Mortgage approvals rise to highest in ten months 04/12/12 Mortgage approvals for house purchase rose to 52,982 in October, the Bank of England has said. The figure was an improvement on September’s figure of 50,415 and was the highest since January. However, it was still only about half of the monthly average of 103,000 in the decade to 2007. October’s improved figures were stronger than expected, and analysts said it could be a sign that the Funding for Lending scheme is beginning to take effect. Click here

The North West Evergreen Fund, which invests in real estate projects in Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Cheshire and Lancashire, provided a loan to the Soapworks regeneration development and will support the delivery of 210,000 sq ft of the proposed 400,000 sq ft redevelopment of the former Colgate-Palmolive factory in Salford Quays. Seasonal dip in housing market 'lowest for five years' 04/12/12 The property market showed surprising resilience during November, bucking the seasonal trend for double-digit decline in month-on-month activity. The number of properties achieving ‘Sold’ status decreased by just 1.2%, while new ‘For Sale’ listings fell against the previous month by 7.3%. Putting this into perspective, the figures for November this year show the lowest month-on-month seasonal drop in both new ‘For Sale’ and ‘Sold’ properties since Agency Express began its Property Activity Index in 2007.
