The Grand is a self-contained Grade-II listed warehouse conversion situated on Aytoun Street, a wide thoroughfare between Piccadilly Station and Canal Street with the Metro link Trams running down the middle of the street. Converted from the city’s famous Grand Hotel in 2000 it’s a large building with a full-height central atrium and a wide range of sizes and prices.
There are two main styles; converted apartments with high ceilings, arched sash windows and solid original wooden floors on levels 1 to 4 and two floors of new-build penthouse apartments with rooftop views across central Manchester on levels 5 and 6. Unusually, the penthouses aren’t the most popular choices at The Grand; the most sought-after apartments are on levels one and two.
Here the ceilings are over 12ft high and the living spaces are some of the largest in town. But it’s the building’s central location that makes The Grand one of Manchester’s most popular blocks; it’s situated one street away from Piccadilly Gardens and you can walk to the Arndale Centre, the Northern Quarter, Chinatown, the Gay Village and the University campus in less than five minutes.
