The Hacienda, Manchester’s most legendary nightclub, closed on June 15th 1997 and reopened six years later as a large landmark apartment block. The original building was demolished in 2002 and a replica building constructed in its place, keeping the famous curved brick facade and increasing the height from four to twelve-storeys.
Located on the southern-edge of the city centre, the building has north-facing views of the adjacent Rochdale Canal and south-facing views across the neighbouring railway viaduct and towards the Cheshire Plains. There are a small number of medium-sized one bedroom apartments and a wide-range of two bedroom apartments, from standard-sized units on the lower floors to large duplexes with generous decked terraces on the higher floors.
All apartments have high-quality fittings with expensive German kitchens, solid wooden floors and steel-fronted balconies, plus there are plenty of secure underground parking spaces. The building’s central location makes it one of the city’s most popular blocks; you can walk to Deansgate; St. Peter’s Square and Oxford Road in a couple of minutes and the adjacent bars at Deansgate locks are amongst the most popular in town. However, The Hacienda has an Achilles Heel; the living rooms are narrow and the bedroom sizes are tight – but the apartments are smaller than comparable blocks you can pick up a high-quality two-bedroom apartment for less than £1000pcm.
