02/09/15

As promised, here is the second instalment of our ‘In the Know’ series where we will focus on the wonderfully affluent area of Didsbury. This quaint little suburb is one of the most sought-after by home buyers and movers in the South Manchester area and it’s not hard to see why! Didsbury has everything – and we mean everything! From boutique beauty stores to excellent restaurants and a bustling nightlife, there really is something for everyone here.

The list of things to do and see in Didsbury would be far too long for us to detail here, but you can see it all on the Didsbury Life website for free. For now though, let us talk you through what we believe are the top five resources/attractions in the local area.

East Didsbury Train Station

Again, as did with our guide to The Four Heatons, we will begin by looking at the main transport links within the region. Plenty of bus services operate throughout Didsbury, with numerous numbers taking passengers from the village centre to areas such as the city centre, Withington, Burnage and Gorton. Travelling by train? No problem, you can stop off at East Didsbury train station which is just a 5-10 minute walk from the centre of the town. Perfect!

Didsbury Village

Didsbury Village is the name used by local people to describe the centre of the town. This is where you will find your typical high street stores, mixed with a number of independent retailers and your traditional banks too. The village represents a shopping Mecca during the day and a thriving nightspot for you to dance the night away. Have you hair cut, your eyebrows waxed, your shoes polished, your keys cut and your fish fried – all in one small village centre!

Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre

The Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre is without doubt the biggest attraction in Didsbury, pulling hundreds of visitors every single day. The complex incorporates a ten-pin bowling alley, a huge cinema, an arcade, pool room, casino, numerous restaurants, a hotel and even a two-storey gym! So you can work out, eat and play all in one convenient location that is easily accessible off of the A34. This is the perfect venue to relax, unwind and spend time with loved ones.

Fletcher Moss Park and Parsonage Gardens

With all of this busy, town-centre living going on you will eventually need some real fresh-air! Fear not as Didsbury also offers a number of wide open spaces for you to take a slow summer’s stroll or a brisk winter’s walk. Fletcher Moss Park and Parsonage Gardens are two separate locations that both have their own individual perks, but together they provide an opportunity for you to stretch your legs and get away from it all momentarily. The beautiful and natural surroundings are both relaxing and inspiring.

Waterside Hotel & Leisure Club

Located just on the outskirts of Didsbury as you travel towards Cheadle, The Waterside Hotel & Leisure Club incorporates £1.1 million worth of leisure facilities and over 45 guest bedrooms. Being within close proximity to Manchester Airport has made this a very popular hotel amongst tourists and the surrounding grounds are absolutely beautiful. The leisure facilities are not just for guests either as anyone from the local area is able to sign up. The Waterside has been in Didsbury that long now it is becoming almost a famous landmark!

So that’s your lot for Didsbury folks! Tune in again next time when we’ll be whisking you away to another part of Manchester and listing the top five things there is to see there.
